Awesome Summer Sequels

If you are a person who abhors sequels because you think they lack creativity or freshness, this year is not for you in the film industry. The summer of movie sequels has set off with the most recent in the Pirates of the Caribbean series being released in mid-May, but it is only the first of what promises to be a very entertaining few months. All you have to do is check out the film trailers for any a couple of these and you will undoubtedly become incredibly excited for the months ahead. Although a number of these films are aimed at children, all of them promise to offer at least a bit of entertainment for the older crowd, and some, like Harry Potter, are hugely hyped, even being dubbed “the event of a generation”. Below is a list of some of this summer’s best movie sequels set to hit the big screen.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4

The loveable Johnny Depp is back in what is sure to be one of the biggest hits of the year.

Captain Jack Sparrow is on the hunt for the fountain of youth with the help of an old love, played by Penélope Cruz, and perhaps the backing of the British Government.  Along the way they run into the pirate that all pirates fear, Blackbeard, and the race for immortality and the fountain is on.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

The last instalment brings us the final stand between Harry and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named with the fates of the wizard and muggle world on the line. No need to wait to read the film reviews on this one, you can judge this film by its awesome cinema poster.

The first film of the seventh book was cinematic genius and the last film in the series is sure to catch the imagination of all who have grown up with JK Rowling. Enchantment abounds as Harry, Hermione and Ron take on the most evil villain ever known.

Kung Fu Panda 2

The greatest masters in the Kung Fu universe are disappearing as the evil Lord Shen plots to take over the world. Newly initiated Dragon Warrior, Po the Panda, and the Furious Five are given the duty of saving their kung fu master, their friends, and all of the Valley of Peace in this thrill-a-minute animated 3D awesome adventure. [Isn’t this the plot of the first film, not the sequel?]

The Hangover Part II

Yes, the plot looks almost identical: A wedding, a bachelor party, a morning after a night full of regret and a missing person. But this one is different than the first. How? Well, it’s set in Thailand. And it is pretty much guaranteed to be a couple of hours’ worth of belly laughs. All of the main characters are back, including the hilarious Zach Galifianakis and one Mike Tyson, along with a couple of new animals to round out the wolf pack.

Cars 2

Owen Wilson stars as Lightning McQueen to help the world’s greatest spy, Finn MacMissile from British Intelligence, in a hunt to save the world in this fast-paced international children’s movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Based on of the hugely popular novel and hoping to continue the success of the first film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is sure to be a popular family flick this summer.  Greg Heffley made being a wimp cool in the first movie, and this time around he has to face off against his much cooler older brother.  Hilarious internet videos and a cast full of misfits will make this great for the younger generation out there.
