Urology is the surgical specialty concerned with correcting abnormalities of the genitourinary system in both men and women. A urologist may use medical treatment or resort to surgery to correct these abnormalities. Surgery is often necessary to remove a genitourinary organ affected by cancer. Dr. Lesani has a special interest in treating men and women with cancers of the kidney as well as men with prostate cancer.

Services & Procedures
Minimally Invasive Urologic Surgery

Minimally invasive options for the treatment of urologic disease are widely available. These treatments often require no or minimal hospital stay.

Prostatic Enlargement or BPH

Laser (KTP or Hol:YAG) is used to ablate prostate tissue to improve urinary flow.

Kidney Stones

Laser fibers and ultrasound probes are used to breakdown kidney stones via tunnels through the skin or with the use of small cameras passed through the urinary tract.

Prostate Cancer

Surgical removal of prostate cancer is now performed using a robotic system which greatly improves visualization and enhances a surgeons maneuverability in small spaces. Instruments are inserted into the body through small keyhole incisions. For additional information, please refer to Surgical Innovations page.

Kidney Cancer

A small cancerous part of the kidney or the entire kidney can be removed through small keyhole incision using laparoscopic (long hand-held instruments) or robotic instruments. Some kidney tumors can be destroyed by a freezing process which preserves the remaining healthy part of the kidney. For additional information, please refer to Surgical Innovations page.

Urinary Tract Obstruction

Small areas of blockage can be repaired using a laser fiber through a small camera to incise scar tissue. Major reconstruction of the urinary tract is done using laparoscopy or robotic-assisted surgery.

Vasectomy

The “No-Scalpel” technique is used to efficiently prevent male fertility. It involves a small puncture site and is associated with the least amount of post-operative discomfort.

Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence can be corrected using innovative surgical techniques in an outpatient setting.
